 να συνυπογράψουμε Επιστολή για την Προστασία του Οικουμενικού Πατριαρχείου απευθυνόμενη προς τον Καναδό Πρωθυπουργό Stephen Harper προκειμένου να μεσολαβήσει στον Τούρκο πρωθυπουργό Recep Tayyip Erdoğan ως οικοδεσπότης της Συνόδου την επόμενη εβδομάδα. Το κείμενο αυτής έχει ως εξής:
PROTECT THE ECUMENICAL PATRIARCHATE
To Prime Minister Stephen Harper

As G20 Summit host, I call upon you to advance the existing international consensus urging Turkey to honour its legal obligation in support of the Ecumenical Patriarchate. Despite appeals from the US, EU and UN, Turkey continues to treat the Patriarchate unjustly, this includes:

-Its non‐legal status and Turkey’s non-recognition of the “Ecumenical” title

-Restrictions on the election of the Ecumenical Patriarch and Church hierarchs

-The continued and illegal closure of the Theological School of Halki

-The confiscation and loss of thousands of properties, including church buildings

I ask that you show international leadership consistent with Canada’s history of supporting democratic norms and personally speak with Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan to ensure Turkey treats religious minorities fairly and justly.

We the undersigned hereby condemn Turkey's actions in the occupied parts of North Cyprus:

The willful desecration, pillage, looting and destruction of around 500 churches and religious sites belonging to the Greek-Orthodox Autocephalous Church of Cyprus, the Greek-Orthodox Patriarchate of Jerusalem, the Holy Monastery of St. Catherine in Sinai, the Roman Catholic Church, the Catholic-Armenian Church, the Catholic-Maronite Church, the Jewish community, as well as the Protestant Church, along with their cemeteries;

The conversion of a considerable number of Christian churches into military camps, mosques, stables, hencoops, oxen and sheep-stalls;

The usage, today, of some of Christian Churches as wheat-chambers, store rooms and granaries;

The renting or sale of some of Christian Churches to private individuals, who use them as art studios, carpentry workshops, parking stations, coffee shops, residences, cultural centres, gymnasia, ceramics workshops, hotels, pubs, theatres, nightclubs, museums, ottoman baths (hamam), sports clubs and dancing schools; and,

The fundamental and massive violations of human rights and religious freedoms in Cyprus, as a direct result from the continuing Turkish military occupation.
